Members of the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, led by the caucus chairman Chief T. K. Okorotie, paid a condolence visit to The Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson in Toru Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
Chief Okorotie expressed regret at the demise of Mama Gogo stating that she led a peaceful, humble and loving life while she was alive. He reminisced her infectious life of support for governor Dickson which he credited to the huge successes he has recorded in all his life of service.
Governor Dickson in his remark, appreciated the chief and the delegation for their show of care and reiterated that the loss of his mother is one that will be difficult to bear.
“She was more than a mother to me, she was my elder sister, my biggest cheerleader, my confidant and my friend. She was loving and showed genuine concern, love and care to all that came her. She was content and full of life.”
The governor used the opportunity to encourage all those who have devoted their lives to public service not to forget the reason why they render service and the sacrifices of those who have deprived themselves of their presence and rightful attention to ensure they succeed as public servants.
“As public servants, we spend so much time serving people and fail to realize that we stand the risk of neglecting those without whose sacrifice and support, success would have been difficult. I am referring to spouses, children, parents, siblings and so on. We must in addition to our public responsibility, pay attention to our loved ones who are holding forth behind the scene.”
The governor reiterated his desire to set up a foundation that will advance the Advocacy for cancer through the establishment of a cancer Centre where massive awareness campaign will be carried out as well as screening services in honour of his late mother, Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson and urged every one to support the cause.
